FISCHER Jan.25, 1999 RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED Mr. Steve Calhoun 2864 Palos Verdes Dr. North Rolling Hills, CA 90274 The Calhoun F. & J Trust 2860 Palos Verdes Dr. North Rolling Hills, CA 90274 Re.: Landscaping Dear Steve: Dear Trustee: f D AN 2 6 1999 CITY OF ROLLING HILLS Py It is much appreciated that you replaced the earth near my cesspool this past week. It was removed during your home construction several years ago and not in compliance with the L.A. County "Private Sewage Disposal Systems Minimum Horizontal Distance" requirements. I assume that you are intending to landscape this area. If you like me to re -landscape the area within my property line, I am happy to do so. In any case I would like to coordinate the landscaping of this area with you as I have some concerns regarding the future use and maintenance of this area. From time to time I may need to access the cesspool with pumping apparatus and for renovation and maintenance purposes. This means that the area within ten feet of my retaining wall and inside of my property line can only be planted with groundcover. As to plant choice, plants with non-invasive root systems and moisture tolerant would best serve in this area. Plants used in constructed wetlands such as phragmite (Phragmitis Australis) or similar may best serve in this area with the least maintenance and actually thrive near cesspools and leach fields. The above named ordinance also sets forth a minimum separation of 12 feet clear of a cesspool and a tree. This includes any tree portion including roots and canopy. If I can assist you in any way to make this area as attractive as possible please let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you regarding your landscaping plans, especially as the may affect the cesspool operation. Very ruly yours, c/c f 1s.
