Thank you for meeting with the City and Rolling Hills Community Association (RHCA) staff
yesterday at City Hall. We understand the following from our discussion:
• You have engaged the services of a civil engineer and soils and geotechnical consultants to
advise you regarding a non -permitted BBQ and patio and future basement.
• You have engaged the services of a surveyor to prepare a survey of your property.
• You intend to complete plans to construct a new basement but are undecided at this time of
the full scope of work and whether the BBQ will be retained.
• Excavation under the house has been for the purpose of investigating future basement
construction and retention of the BBQ and patio.
• The BBQ area is not permitted and is the subject of a pending code enforcement action.
• You have concerns regarding a "storm drain' on your property that you are privately
pursuing.
As the next step, the City will arrange a site visit/inspection in the near future, weather permitting.
Inspection will be regarding the items above as well as the side yard area where we understand from
Mr. Lamb months ago that surface vegetation/pavement near the house was removed to repair
irrigation pipes. We may bring a building inspector and drainage engineer who might be of assistance
to you and an RHCA staff representative may also be present.
The goal of the City in visiting your property is solely to understand the extent of work being done on
the exterior of your home so that we can advise you regarding the approvals and permits that are
required to accomplish your project and accurately inform any member of the public who is
requesting information.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss this matter, please do not hesitate to call me or Planning
Director Yol a Schwartz at (310) 377-1521.

Thank you for your memorandum of November 10, 2008 transmitting your letter of
October 13, 2008 to the Rolling Hills Community Association (RHCA). It was also nice
talking with you in regard to your letter. •
To confirm our conversation, the subject of your complaint is 9 Wagon Lane, not 5
Wagon Lane. Moreover, the City of Rolling Hills has had no involvement in regard to
the situation you reference. Until now, there has been no communication with the City in
regard to un-permitted construction in the easement of 9 Wagon Lane. As we discussed,
the RI-ICA is responsible for all matters concerning use of easements. However, the City
would get involved if there is illegal construction on the property that requires a building
permit or Planning Commission approval.
You are welcome to provide us with information regarding the situation and, as with all
code enforcement requests, the City will address the matter.
Thank you.
