ROLLING HILLS RECEIVES LOCAL COMMUNITY
PROJECT FUNDING
Last week, Congressman Ted W. Lieu’s office announced
over $11 million in federal funding for 14 local projects in
California’s 36th Congressional District. This funding
included $1million dollars to the City of Rolling Hills for a
proposed 8-inch sanitary sewer main along Portuguese
Bend Road/Rolling Hills Road. This would be the first City-
driven capital improvement project for a sewer collection
line to be constructed in the City of Rolling Hills.
The funding would be used to contribute towards the
capital costs necessary to construct Phase 1 of the
project which includes a new 8-inch downstream sewer
improvement in Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates to
connect Rolling Hills City Hall, RHCA Building, Main
Gatehouse, and Tennis Court facility to the existing public
sewer system in Rolling Hills Estates. Phase 2 (not included
in this funding) would involve the downstream sewer
improvements in the City of Torrance and upsizing of
existing sewer facilities necessary to possibly connect City
of Rolling Hills residents to the public sewer system.
This project is an important piece of the overall
infrastructure needed on the Palos Verdes Peninsula to
safeguard our environment, protect the health of the
community, reduce the risk of land movement, and
capture and reuse all available sources of water to meet
drought conditions. Funding for the project could provide
the City of Rolling Hills with the catalyst for an eventual
citywide sanitary sewer collection system in the future.
