Latin origin of the word arbor, is a holiday that celebrates
the planting, upkeep , and preservation of trees. For

various ways to honor nature and the environment. Join
City representatives for a new tree planting in celebration
of Arbor Day on the City Hall campus. The tree and care
are donated by Bennett Landscape.

UTILITY UNDERGROUNDING ON CREST ROAD
EAST HAS BEGUN
The City of Rolling Hills currently has two utility
undergrounding projects as part of a FEMA/CalOES
Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. This week, construction
began on Crest Road East near the emergency gate exit.
Any questions – please call City Hall at 310-377-1521.
EASTFIELD DRIVE UTILITY UNDERGROUNDING
PROGRESS UPDATE
The second utility undergrounding project is on Eastfield
Drive from Hackamore Road to Outrider Road. Utilities are
currently in the preliminary design process. On Monday,
April 22 City staff will bring a professional services
agreement to the City Council for potholing services
specific to this project. Once approved, there will be
crews ensuring that the current Southern California Edison
vault designs do not conflict with pre-existing utilities
underground. Residents can anticipate crews working in
the coming month for a few days. Any questions – please
call City Hall at 310-377-1521.

ALERT SOUTHBAY WIRELESS EMERGENCY
ALERT TEST ON MAY 7
Alert SouthBay, in coordination with the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) and the Integrated
Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), will conduct a
test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) capability for
the South Bay Region on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at
approximately 11:30 a.m. PST.
The WEA portion of the test will be directed to consumer
cell phones and will be the second assessment of system
performance, following the initial test conducted on
Tuesday, January 9, 2024. These tests are designed to
maintain the effectiveness of the systems in alerting the
public about emergencies. The forthcoming test is
additionally intended to clarify the reasons for the failures
observed in the previous test.
All wireless phones should receive the message only once
at approximately 11:30 a.m. PST. Messages on phones will
read: "THIS IS A TEST of the Alert SouthBay Regional Wireless
Emergency Alert System. No action is needed. For
information please visit www.alertsouthbay.com.

SADDLEBACK ROAD SINKHOLE UPDATE!
The RHCA is working with civil and geotechnical
engineers to locate the cause and prepare a plan for
repair. Work is currently paused at the sinkhole while the
engineers prepare a plan for the drain and road repairs.
Once the plan and costs for the road repairs are ready, it
will go to the RHCA Board for review. The RHCA expects
this to happen in May.
NARBONNE AVE. ANTICIPATED ROAD WORK
The City of Lomita will be installing a new 8-inch water
main and rehabilitating Narbonne Avenue between PCH
and Palos Verdes Drive North. Work will start in late-Spring
or early Summer 2024 and will last 3-4 months. Expect lane
closures and delays.
AVOID THE WAIT, USE THE CREST GATE!
The Main Gate processes 50%-60% more guests than the
Crest or Eastfield gates and gets most of the large trucks
and first-time visitors which also slows the entry process
down creating backup traffic. Please let your guests and
workers know that they may be able to gain entry quicker
by using the Crest Gate. Crest has the least traffic in the
morning and lines are virtually non-existent. This will relieve
the congestion at the Main Gate.
