Holiday Trash Collection Schedule – No pick-ups will occur on Thursday, November 28. Residents who normally have their trash collected on Thursday will receive service on Friday and Friday pick-ups will be serviced on Saturday. SAVE THE DATE: ROLLING HILLS SNOW DAY Sunday, December 8, 1:00 – 3:00 PM The Women’s Community Club of Rolling Hills cordially invites all residents to bring their children and grandchildren to the Annual Children’s Holiday Party at the RHCA Building, 1 Portuguese Bend Road. SHARE A HOLIDAY ORNAMENT FOR THE CITY HALL CHRISTMAS TREE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON The City invites residents to share an ornament for placement on the City Christmas Tree ahead of the Holiday Open House. If willing to participate, bring your ornament to City Hall during regular office hours (7:30am -5pm) between November 25 and December 9. SPARK OF LOVE TOY DONATIONS This year, the County of LA Fire Department, ABC7, Toys for Tots, and Southern California Firefighters will celebrate the 32nd Year of the Spark of Love Toy Drive. This year, you can donate to Spark of Love by: dropping off your new, unwrapped toys or sports equipment at your local neighborhood fire station, texting the word “SPARK” to 24365, or donating online at https://Supportlafd.kindful.com/?campaign=1032876 to donate via credit card . WEST BASIN FREE BARREL GIVEAWAY EVENTS This fall, West Basin is hosting six drive-through rain barrel pick-up events on various Saturdays between November 16, 2024 – January 25, 2025 at different locations throughout the service area. The district will give away a total of 1,500 free rain barrels to help our collective residents save water and money, while reducing stormwater runoff. Events will be held at the following locations and may be attended by any qualified resident within the West Basin Service Area. Registration is highly recommended. • El Segundo, Saturday, November 23 • Gardena, Saturday, December 7 • Lomita, Saturday, December 14 • Malibu, Saturday, January 11 • Rolling Hills Estates, Saturday, January 25 THANKSGIVING SAFETY TIPS • Never leave the stove or oven unattended while cooking - Unattended cooking is the number one cause of home fires in the U.S. according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). • Keep children away from stove-tops, open fires, lighters, matches, and candles - keep children at least 3 feet away from the stove while in use or cooking to help prevent any mishaps. • Be careful of cords cluttering the kitchen - Electric mixers, coffee makers, and plate warmers can be an electrical fire hazard due to the amount of electricity running through the outlets. • Test your smoke alarms - Make sure to test your smoke alarms monthly, but especially before the start of Thanksgiving cooking season so you and your family are alerted in the event of a fire. Batteries should be replaced every six months. • Have a fire extinguisher – Make sure to have a fire extinguisher easily accessible, especially in the kitchen during the holiday season. Pull the pin, aim at the base of the fire, squeeze the trigger and sweep from side to side.
