CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING PROGRAM
December 26 through January 13
To participate, place your tree next to your green waste,
with decorations and stands removed. Republic Services
will transport it to a facility where it will be used for mulch
and compost. Flocked trees and trees coated with fire
retardant will be accepted. Please cut trees over six feet
in half. Do not place trees in plastic bags. If you have
questions, please contact Republic Services Customer
Service Department at 1-800-299-4898.
COMMUNAL BIN EVENT JANUARY 18-25
The City’s 8th communal bin event’s selected locations
will rotate to the northwest quadrant of Rolling Hills. Staff
has reviewed the sites for accessibility, ease of use, size
of the bins in relation to the street, and size of the
transport truck s with Republic Services and the RHCA.
The four locations are as follows:
1. Middleridge Rd and Blackwater Canyon Trail
2. South East corner of Saddleback Rd and Portuguese
Bend Rd.
3. Saddleback Rd. adjacent to Bent Springs Trail
4. Saddleback and Poppy Trail (two bins)
take advantage of the communal bin program AND
order one FREE 40 cubic yard bin for green waste
disposal as a part of your annual assessment fee. To
order a free bin email rollinghills@republicservices.com
PLEASE FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS TO PARTICIPATE:
• Place all green waste inside the bins.
• Do not leave any debris outside the bins.
• Piles need to be kept free of rocks and dirt.
• Do not dump non-green waste materials.
• Do not dump construction materials.

DON GALES STILL AVAILABLE AT CITY HALL
The family of former 60-year Middleridge Lane resident
Don Gales has donated copies of his book titled
Handbook of Wildflowers, Weeds, Wildlife and Weather of
the South Bay and Palos Verdes Peninsula to the City for
distribution on a first come, first serve basis. Don worked
for the U.S. government weather bureau and his pastime
was studying nature. The book includes the history of the
peninsula including reasons for city names, streets, and
landmarks, weather and climate patterns, geology, a
map with names and locations of canyons, lists of all birds
/wildlife, documentation of life in the ocean tidepools,
and more. Visit City Hall for a copy during regular business
hours Monday-Friday 7:30am to 5pm.

PLANNING PERMIT APPLICATIONS AND FEES
AVAILABLE ONLINE
To help streamline services, the City can receiv e
electronic planning applications through its online portal:

Small projects such as reroofs, interior remodels, and
façade changes can be processed using the over-the-
counter application. Additions up to 999 square feet
affecting no more than 50% of the exterior walls may be
permitted administratively. An application for projects
that require discretionary approval through the Planning
Commission is also available. Please consult with staff
regarding the type of application and Planning fees.
There are no Planning fees for over-the-counter
applications and administrative reviews, however, fees
may be required by the building department and Rolling
Hills Community Association. For questions, email

REMINDER: PLANNING DEPARTMENT HOURS
As a reminder to residents and their contracted vendors, the
Planning Department’s public counter is open for walk- ins
from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday through Thursday only.
For one-on-one consultations with the Planning Department,
appointments must be scheduled ahead of time by phone
at 310-377-1521 or through email at planning@cityofrh.net.
Available appointment time slots are between 12:00 pm and
3:30 pm Monday through Thursday only. Please note: the
Planning Department is closed on Fridays and during City-
observed holidays.
CITY WEBSITE UPDATES ON LAND MOVEMENT
The City’s website includes an “Emergency Alerts” tab with
information regarding current events and expedited
permitting of generators, propane, or solar panels for
impacted residents. Visit https://www.rolling-hills.org and
click on “read more” for current information.
HIGH WINDS & THE INCREASED RISK OF FIRE
Rolling Hills is a wildland-urban interface where homes and
vegetation meet. The National Weather Service has
reported concerning wind conditions recently and any fires
that develop could have the high potential for rapid fire
spread. Please be on alert and avoid activities that could
generate sparks or open flames.
WEST BASIN FREE BARREL GIVEAWAY EVENTS
West Basin is wrapping up its drive-through rain barrel
pick-up event. Events will be held at the following
locations. Registration is highly recommended.
• Malibu, Saturday, January 11
• Rolling Hills Estates, Saturday, January 25
