CITY HALL CLOSED – MONDAY, MAY 26
City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 26 in
observance of Memorial Day Holiday. Rolling Hills
City Council and staff wish you a wonderful holiday
weekend! City Hall will re-open Tuesday, May 27.
HOLIDAY TRASH COLLECTION SCHEDULE
There will be no trash/green waste collection on Monday,
May 26. If your trash is normally collected on Monday, it
will be collected on Tuesday and if it is normally collected
on Tuesday, it will be collected on Wednesday.
FIRE HAZARD SEVERITY ZONE MAP HEARING
When: Wednesday, May 28 7pm
Where: City Hall Council Chambers
The City Council will review and discuss the California
Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE)
updated Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) maps for the
city during the Council meeting on Wednesday, May 28.
These maps classify areas as Moderate, High, or Very High
fire hazard zones based on updated climate data, fire
history, vegetation, and topography. While the City is
required to adopt these maps under state law, it cannot
reduce a designation, only increase it if warranted. The
updated maps may affect building requirements,
defensible space standards, and real estate disclosures.
Residents are encouraged to attend and provide input.
PENINSULA WIDE WILDFIRE AWARENESS/
PREVENTION COMMUNITY FORUM
When: Thursday, May 29 5:30 -7:30pm
Where: South Coast Botanic Garden
Please join the office of LA County Supervisor Janice
Hahn, Los Angeles County Fire Department and the
Peninsula Cities for a community forum on wildfire
prevention. Learn About the new defensible space
regulations, home hardening tips, water reliability, and

CONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION REMINDERS
To ensure your project gets off to a smooth and successful
start, here are a few helpful reminders:
Let’s Connect Early: Before beginning any work, please
connect with our Planning staff to make sure your plans
align with the City’s Municipal Code. We're happy to help
answer questions and guide you through each step of the
process.
C&D Permit Requirement: If your project involves moving
materials in or out of the city, a Construction & Demolition
(C&D) Permit is required.
Permit Fee: is $1,150. $1,000 is refundable upon
verification that at least 65% of the materials were
recycled.
Applying is Easy: You or your contractor can apply online
at www.rolling-hills.org.
Avoid Delays: Unpermitted construction may result in a
Code Violation and a stop work order. Securing proper
permits helps keep your project running smoothly and on
schedule.
VACANCY ON TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The Traffic Commission currently has an unanticipated
vacancy and is a great opportunity for City of Rolling Hills
residents to get involved in the community.
Commissioners serve a four-year term. The remaining term
for the vacancy is approximately 2.5 years. Contact the

MAY WATER CONSERVATION TIP
Conserving water in landscaping can be achieved
through simple practices such as:
• Selecting drought-tolerant plants that require minimal
watering
• Grouping plants by their water needs to avoid
overwatering
• Adjusting irrigation systems to prevent runoff and target
root zones
• Watering early in the morning or late in the evening to
reduce evaporation
