NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
September is National Preparedness Month, a nationwide
campaign that encourages individuals to review your
household emergency plan, update supplies, sign up for
notification systems like Alert SouthBay, and have
discussions with loved ones about how to stay safe. By
preparing now, we can all help make Rolling Hills a safer
and more resilient community.
Here are a few simple steps you can take to be ready:
Make a plan: Talk with your household about where to
meet and how to communicate during an emergency.
Build an emergency kit: Include water, non-perishable
food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important
documents.
Stay informed: Sign up for Alert SouthBay to receive timely
emergency alerts and updates.
Protect your home: Clear brush and debris around your
property. Keep landscaping lean and green.
ALERT SOUTH BAY – SIGN UP TODAY
Providing residents with timely, accurate
emergency alert and warning notifications
through an integrated, standardized, cross-
jurisdictional no tification platform, helps
reduce the loss of life and damage to
property and the environment. Sign up for emergency
alerts by texting ALERTSB to 888777 or using the QR Code.

BE AWARE: NEW INVASIVE BEETLE SPECIES
The invasive dotted paropsine leaf beetle (Paropsis
atomaria), is rapidly spreading across Southern California,
feeding on over 20 eucalyptus species and causing
severe defoliation. Now recently identified in Rolling Hills,
its fast reproduction and clustering behavior make it a
serious concern for urban forests. This beetle is easily
identified by bright yellow/orange markings and black
spots on wing cases. Females can lay 20-100 eggs in a
circular cluster on young stems and leaves. The University
of California Agricultural and Natural Resources
recommends hiring a professional for insecticide
applications to prevent the spread. Read more
information here: https://bit.ly/46pxgb8.
