The LA County Fire Department (LACFD) regulates the first 200 feet from structures in order to establish a defensible space. City Ordinance No. 375 requires the removal of dead trees and plants on the remainder of your property to help keep our community safe from the threat of wildfires. Residents may wish to consult with their gardener, arborist or tree service to assess trees and shrubs and for constructive clearance methods that avoid future erosion. COMMUNAL BIN EVENT EXTENDED The City’s 10th communal bin event will now conclude on Monday, January 26, 2026—residents are encouraged to take advantage before it ends. The four locations are as follows: 1. Quail Ridge N. just north of Crest Road West (2 bins) 2. On the Corner of Crest Road W. and Quail Ridge N. adjacent to 1 Crest Road W. 3. On Spur Lane just west of Cinchring Road on Cal Water’s - Water Tank Property. 4. On Portuguese Bend Road across from 52 Portuguese Bend on the west side of the street. To order a free bin email rollinghills@republicservices.com PLEASE FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS TO PARTICIPATE: • Place all green waste inside the bins. • Do not leave any debris outside the bins. • Piles need to be kept free of rocks and dirt. • Do not dump non-green waste materials. • Do not dump construction materials. • Do not overfill or leave green waste on the ground adjacent to the bins if they are full. FIRST BLOCK CAPTAINS MEETING IN 2026 WHEN: 10AM, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2026 WHERE: CITY HALL – Refreshments starting at 9:30am Block Captains meet four times a year in February, May, August and November. Meetings are held in the City Council Chambers. The meetings are streamed live via zoom. Many neighborhoods are without a Block Captain, so consider joining and becoming an important part of the community. The rain s over the holidays and prior have delayed progress by a few weeks… but they are back to work and moving forward. We will guide you through: • Selecting climate-appropriate plant palettes • Considering turf removal options and rebates • Planning a new landscape that thrives with less water • Exploring sustainable landscape techniques and functions For more information, contact: South Bay Environmental Services Center 310 371-4633 Sponsored by: West Basin Municipal Water District, Water Replenishment District, The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, California Water Service, and the City of Rolling Hills EASTFIELD DRIVE UTILITY UNDERGROUNDING PROJECT UPDATE This large federal grant project, extends from Outrider Road to Hackamore Road and is broken up into two sections: Rule 20A which is handled by Southern California Edison (SCE) solely, and Rule 20B which is handled by the City in partnership with the utilities. SCE currently is out to bid for the construction of the Rule 20A section (from Hackamore down to 48 Eastfield Dr) and anticipate construction beginning in February and ending in April. The current FEMA grant expired on January 9th. City staff has utilized our US Senators and local Congressmember to advocate for an extension. After a year of petitioning FEMA, they responded on January 6th noting an extension was under review. Staff will continue to provide updates as we hear back from our representatives and FEMA. The City also needs FEMA to approve a budget modification request if an extension is granted.
