By popular demand, the four Peninsula cities are again
hosting a peninsula-wide equine preparedness event for
horse owners, equestrian enthusiasts, and anyone
interested in learning more about equine emergency
preparedness. Following last year’s well-attended event,
which focused on Equine First Aid Essentials, this year’s
theme shifts to broader equine preparedness topics.
Participants can expect emergency preparedness
guidance from the Equine Response Team (ERT), an
equine health panel featuring local veterinarians, a trailer
loading demonstration with LA County Animal Care &
Control, and a variety of equine resource and vendor
booths. The morning offers practical tips, local resources,
and an opportunity to connect with others who share an
interest in equine safety and preparedness.

PLANNING PERMIT APPLICATIONS AND FEES
AVAILABLE ONLINE
To help streamline services, the City
can receive electronic planning
applications through its online portal:
https://bit.ly/RHApplications
Small projects such as reroofs, interior remodels, and
façade changes can be processed using the over-the-
counter application. Additions up to 999 square feet
affecting no more than 50% of the exterior walls may be
permitted administratively. An application for projects
that require discretionary approval through the Planning
Commission is also available. Please consult with staff
regarding the type of application and Planning fees.
There are no Planning fees for over-the-counter
applications and administrative reviews, however, fees
may be required by the building department and Rolling
Hills Community Association. For questions, email
planning@cityofrh.net or call 310-377-1521.
MISSED OUR PUBLIC SAFETY DISCUSSION?
Here’s a few safety tips to recap our talk:
• Call the Lomita Sheriff Station FIRST to report any
suspicious behavior, 911 for emergencies and
310-539-1661 for non-emergencies.
• Take preventative measures in protecting your property
from theft: lock doors, keep garage doors closed, keep
valuables out of sight, turn lights on even if you’re not
home to make your house look occupied – this acts as
a deterrent.
• Domestic violence awareness starts with us! Learn the
signs, speak up, and provide support to those who need
it. For questions about resources available call 310-377-
1521.
• See Something, Say Something – Report suspicious
activity in our community. If you see something, say
something—your vigilance keeps us safe.
DEFENSIBLE SPACE REMINDER
Annual defensible space inspections are expected to
begin June 1. With much of Rolling Hills located in a Very
High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, preparing early can help
reduce risk and avoid last-minute work.
To help ensure your property is in compliance, residents
are encouraged to review guidance
from the Los Angeles County Fire
Department Defensible Space program:
https://fire.lacounty.gov/fire-hazard-
reduction-programs/
