BOX 1460 AL}IAMBRA,.CALIFORNIA 91502-1460 IN REPLY PLEASE REFER TO FILE: RE: Overhead service at 69 Eastfield, Rolling Hills I was a Building Inspector for the City of Rolling Hills as well as the City of Rolling Hills Estates, when the ordinance for underground of utilities was adopted by both cities. The City of Rolling Hills did not have specific requirements in the ordinance of undergrounding of utilities for additions and remodeling of existing residences. In the past the City Council for Rolling Hills agreed to follow the same regulations adopted by the City of Rolling Hills Estates. See attached copy of the ordinance #526, Sec. 1104 items (c) and (d) for Rolling Hills Estates. In the case of 69 Eastfield, a judgement was made not to require existing overhead lines to be placed underground based on the following criteria specified in the above ordinance: - Addition and remodeling did not appear to exceed 500 of the reasonable replacement value of the building prior to such work. - That such waiver will not result in a'significant change in the existing visual pattern created by existing overhead service lines. - Imposing undegrounding requirement would create undue hardship, since this would require an excavation to cross under the heavily travelled city street. • • - Service entrance conductors and meter box were not relocated to a.different location on the property. • If I could be of Further assistance please feel free to call me.
