SUBJECT: Violation Of Dead Vegetation Removal/ Fire Fuel Abatement Ordinance -
Dear Mr./Mrs. Pickar
I am following up to a letter that was sent out to you from the Rolling Hills Homeowners Association
in regards to dead tree/vegetation. If the matter has been resolved please contact me for an
inspection. If the matter has not been resolved I included a date to clear the dead tree/vegetation
In an effort to reduce the extreme fire risks in the City of Rolling Hills, the City passed a Fire Fuel
Abatement Ordinance RHMC 8.30.010 requiring residents to keep their properties free from dead
vegetation. Every person who owns or is in possession of any property, place or area within the boundaries
of the City shall, at his or her own expense, maintain the property, place or area free from any dead or alive
tumbleweed or dead tree, shrub palm frond or other plant. Any dead or alive tumbleweed or dead tree,
shrub, palm frond or other plant located on any property in the City is hereby declared to be a public
nuisance.
After an inspection, it has been determined that the property is in violation of the Fire Fuel
Abatement Ordinance. Therefore, the City is requiring that you clear the dead vegetation from the
entire property no later than September 23, 2019. If your property continues in a state of
noncompliance it may be deemed a public nuisance and subject to regular code enforcement and
public nuisance abatement procedures. It is important to stress that this applies only to dead
vegetation and also encompasses areas that exceed the L.A. County Fire Department's requirement of
removing dead vegetation which means clearance extends beyond 200 feet from a structure.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss a need for extra time to comply, please feel free to call
City Hall at (310) 377-1521. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
Delia Aranda
Code Enforcement Officer
