We are pleased to submit the results of our soil compaction testing for the backyard swimming pool
backfill. This report presents a summary of compaction tests, laboratory test results, and
conclusions for backfilling of the swimming pool.
Site Description
The Property is located at 1 Buckboard Trail, City of Rolling Hills, County of Los Angeles,
California. The pool was located on the northeast side of the property. The pool was
approximately 10 to 20 ft. wide, 31 ft. long, and 2 to 7 ft. deep. For more detail see the attached
plan in Appendix B.
Site Preparation
Prior to pool backfill, the top 2 ft. of concrete around the perimeter of the pool shell was
removed. Two square holes were made into the concrete on the shallow end and deep end of the
pool measuring 2 ft. x 2 ft. and 4 ft. x 4 ft. respectively. One (1) ft. of gravel was placed on
bottom of pool area prior to fill placement.
Fill Placement
The imported soil materials, during compaction, consisted of medium grain sand. Fill soils were
placed in 6 inches lifts and compacted to at least 90 percent of relative compaction in accordance
with ASTM Test Method D-1557-12 and the intended use.

Field Testing

Field density tests were performed to verify the relative degree of compaction in general accordance
with ASTM D2922 and D3017 (Nuclear Gauge Method) and sand cone in accordance with
American Society for Testing and Materials D 1556. A total of six (6) tests were taken, five (5)
using nuclear gage and one (1) of these tests was obtained using ASTM D-1556 Sand Cone Method
(marked as SC) for a minimum of 10 percent of tests. A summary of compaction test results is
shown in the enclosed Table II. The approximate locations of the field density tests are shown on
the attached Fig. A-1-1. Field density tests were taken at adequate layers to determine that the
minimum relative compaction of 90% was achieved for backfill.
Laboratory Testing
The laboratory maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of the major soil type
encountered during grading were determined in accordance with ASTM Test Method D-1557-12.

Based on our review of the field and laboratory testing from the backfill of the swimming pool, the
subject secondary fill areas within swimming pool are not less than 90 percent relative compaction.
