Dear Mr. Nollenberger,
INCORPORATED JANUARY 24, 1957
NO. 2 PORTUGUESE BEND ROAD

July 15, 1981
The City has inspected the above ground installation of
water lines in the area of the Ranchero Road/Portuguese Bend
Road intersection. These pipes have been installed immediately
adjacent to the roadway, and the swivel joints extend a signi-
ficant distance into the air.
We are deeply concerned about the current design and
location of the water mains, since they cause a severe
traffic hazard. The City requests that the Water Company
relocate the pipes in a manner where they no longer create
a safety problem.
The City also requests that the Water Company relocate
all of its mains and facilities in the "active" landslide
area above ground. In the opinion of our geologists, buried
pipes tend to rupture when subjected to stress across active
fissures, and when reptured, can inject large quantities of
water into the slide in a brief period of time.
Very truly yours,
Donald W. Crocker
Mayor
