SUBJECT: BARRIERS FOR SWIMMING POOLS, HOT TUBS AND SPAS
Dear Mrs. Nuccion:
Thank you for your inquiry about the City's requirements for enforcing pool barriers.
For your information, commencing January 1, 1998, new or altered swimming pools,
spas and hot tubs are required to be surrounded by a protective barrier if they are more
than 2 feet in depth. The barrier may be an alarm, a fence, a wall or combination thereof.
Existing swimming pools, spas and hot tubs built prior to January 1, 1998 do not require
a protective barrier. In Rolling Hills, when a new pool is constructed or altered, a pool
alarm is usually installed to achieve compliance.
The pool that you are concerned about at 12 Eastfield was constructed in 1978, and thus
is not subject to the 1998 regulations.
If you have additional questions please do not hesitate to call me at (310) 377-1521.
Sincerely
l )
