CRUZ, CITY MANAGER SUBJECT: WEEKLY MEMORANDUM DATE: AUGUST 29, 2014 1. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has requested that the City prepare certificates for their 2014 honorees as follows: "Citizens of the Year" - Virginia Butler and Les Fishman; "Best Nonprofit Organization" - Cancer Support Community; and "Outstanding Community Service Organization" - Palos Verdes Peninsula Council of PTAs. In response, as has been done in the past, staff will prepare the certificates for the Mayor/City Council's signature at the City Council meeting on Monday, September 8th. 2. Staff was informed this week that Edison will be changing out several poles in the City on September 2-4th. Enclosed in this weekly packet is a map showing the location of the poles that will be replaced. According to the RHCA, this project does not require the use of helicopters nor does it require any road closures. The Edison contractor will provide traffic control should any lane closures be necessary during the course of the project. 3. The RHCA is in the process of obtaining bids to replace the roof on the RHCA administration building and has expressed an interest in installing solar panels as part of that project. Since the building is leased to them from the City, written approval from the City is required. Unless there is objection, staff will proceed with approval of the request. Please let us know by Wednesday, September 3, 2014 if there are any objections. If there are, the item will be placed on the agenda for discussion by the City Council at the September 8th City Council meeting. 4. Per Councilmember Hill's request staff mailed a sympathy card to Joe Hummel and family from the City Council and staff. RRC:hl 08-29-14Weekly-Memo.docx Page 1 of 1
