RESOLU'T'ION NO. 8
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROLLING
HILLS, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AN AGREE-
MENT WITH THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES FOR THE PROVISION
OF EMERGENCY AMBULANCE SERVICE 'WITHIN THE CITY OF
ROLLING HILLS.
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Rolling
Hills desires to make provision for emergency ambulance
service within the City of Rolling Hills; and
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has submitted to
said Council'a form of agreement under which it -is willing
to provide for and on behalf'of said City emergency ambulance
service within the geographical limits of said City; and
WHEREAS, the form of agreement is acceptable to the
City Council of the City of Rolling Hills;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that,the Mayor and
the City.Clerk of the City of Rolling Hills, be and they
are hereby authorized, empowered and directed, for;. and
on behalf of.the City of Rolling Hills, to enter into an
agreement in the form submitted to this Council for the
provision by the County of Los Angeles of emergency
ambulance service within the geographical limits of the
City of Rolling Hills;
THAT the Mayor shall sign this resolution and the
City Clerk shall attest and certify to the passage and
adoption thereof and that there shall be attached to the
permanent file copy of this resolution a copy of the
form of agreement above referred to.
The City Clerk is directed to forward a certified
copy of this resolution to the Clerk of the Board of
Supervisors.

AGEMENT, -- AMBULANCE SERVICE
THIS AGREEMENT,, made and entered Into this 24th
day of January, 1957# by,and between the COUNTY OF
LOS ANGELES, herein -after referred to as the "County",
and the CITY OF ROLLING HILLS, hereinafter referred to
as the "City".,
WITNESSETH:
For and in consideration of the mutual promises
and covenants herein contained, and under authority
of Title 1, Division 7, Chapter 5, Article 1, Sections
6500 through 6513, Government Code of the State of
California, the County and the City agreeo,
1. The County agreesthat as long as private
contractors maintain ambulance facilities on behalf
of the County of Los Angeles in the vicinity of City,
and as long as said private -contractors so orally
agree with the County, then said ambulance facilities
CIO will be available to answer official calls from the
Ir. police enforcement agencies operative in the City of
Rolling Hills on a twenty -four-hour, seven-day basis,
except when such ambulance facility and service are
otherwise engaged.
2. The service shall be rendered only on the
official.call of the police department of the City or
the.call of such other departments, agencies, or
entities as are designated by the City as providing
police protection therein. Such calls shall be
deemed official only if originating from said police
department or other authorized and designated enforce-
ment agenciesaftera representative of such depart-
ment or agency has viewed the scene and ascertained
that the person or persons needing such service are
within the geographical confines of the City of
Rolling Hills.
3. Each official call shall be reported by
the department or agency rendering law enforcement
within the City in the manner designated by the
-Sheriff of the County, and all information in the
possession of the City or such enforcement agencies
relating to each ambulance call. shall be at all times
available to the County.
4. The ambulance service which may be furnished
by the County under the terms of this agreement shall
not includemore than transportation of the injured
from the scene of the accident to the nearest hospital,
as designated in writing by the County, provided that
if the patient specifically directs otherwise said
ambulance service'shall be the sole responsibility of
the patient and not fall within the confines of this
agreement.
The County shall not be liable to the City
for any liability alleged or claimed as a result of
this contract or services furnished hereunder.
6. City agrees to pay the County for all
ambulance service furnished as a result of the law
enforcement agencies of the City,, or those designated
thereby,, wherein the County has paid the private con-
tractor. City shall pay to the County the precise

amount which the County has paid the private cpntractor
for such service. The County shall render to the City,
on or about July 1, October,..l, January 1, and April 1 of
each year, an itemized statement covering all services
performed and payments made, and said -City shall pay
said County therefor within ten days after receipt of
such statement. No services shall be performed here-
under unless the City shal1 have available funds to cover
the cost thereof.
7. The County agrees that it may furnish necessary
hospital care to indigent patients only as long as City
refers the patient to the hospital designated in writing
I'% the County Itis expressly understood that the
County will not be liable for any hospitalization and
medical treatment furnished to an individual who is not
an indigent, and should an individual who is not an
indigent fail.to pay the hospital, that the City will hold
the County harmless from any claim that might be made by
the hospital against the County for any hospital service
or medical attention furnished to a pay patient. It is
further agreed that the County -will be the sole agent to
determine indigency.
8. This agreement shall become operative immediately
and shall continue in effect to and including the 30th day
of June, 1958. The agreement shall, without further action
of the contracting parties, be thereafter renewed from year
to year unless the desire of either contracting party to
terminate the same shall be given in writing not less -than
sixty days prior to the close of any fiscal year.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, said .County has, by order of its
Board of Supervis6rs, caused these presents to be sub.-
scribed

said Board to be affixed thereto and attested by the Clerk
of said.Board, and said City has caused these presents to
be subscribed by its Mayor and the seal of said City to
be affixed thereto and attested by the Clerk of said City,
on the day and year first above written.
