meeting of the City Council of the City of Rel.l.;in.g Hills was

On motion of Councilman Goodman., seconded by
Councilman Van Vote and unanimously carried, the.minutes of
the meeting held July 23, 1962 and. August 1.3, 1962 were
approved as written.
PERSONAL APPEARANCES
1) Chief .Byron. Robinson, County Fire Department
The Chief informed the Counnil...t;ha.t some of the
driveways in - the City are overgrown with
shrubbery, making it difficult for- .fire trucks
to gain access. The Chief recommended that
the residents keep a mi ni= _ driveway clearance
ten feet in width and ten -to twelve feet ' oven
head. The Manager was directed to give notice
of the Chief's recommendation in the next issue
of the NEWS -LETTER.
2) Lt, J. N. Hamilton, Sheriff°s Department
Lt. Hamilton. submitted a Traffic Accident report
for July, 1962.

The City Clerk presented the registerofbills to
be allowed for payment. It was moved by Councilman Goodman
...that Demands 1173 through 1182 be approved.for payment from
the General Fund. -The motion was seconded by Councilman Van

The City Attorney reported that he has requested
Palos Verdes Properties to submita price on the property
attheSouth and Crenshaw Gates, and on the. East side of
Portuguese Bend Road at the Main Gate.

.UNpROTECTED.ELECTRIC FENCES.
Councilman Goodman stated,that it has been brought
to his attention that there are a number --of electric fences.
installed where there are -no 3 -rail fences$,- and recommended
that unprotected electric fences be outlawed. Councilman
Amberg,and Mayor'Pro Tempore Tourtelot-spoke i ' n opposition to
the recommendation... Thereafteri Councilman'Goodman recommended
that the matter be removed.from the -agenda. -

AND SWAFFIELD PAR, K,. AREA
-Before employing - pr6fess1unal advice .and. -assistance
to ..formulate -a plan, for the development'of- the -Main Gate

property and the Swaffield -Park• area, Councilman Amberg
recommended that a representati=ve of the City meet with Palos
-Verdes-Properties to learn.their proposed plans for development.
Mr. Kinley stated that he would . try to contact Palos Verdes.
Properties before the next meeting.

The City Clerk read a letter dated August 27, 1962
from the Palos Verdes Water -Co.; -,which stated that financial
arrangements have been completed with Mr Ed Pearson and
Lois Georgeson..to furnish water to Tract Noo. 27124 and that
water.will be supplied to.'all lots in.said tract in accordance
with the Rules and Regulations of the Public Utilities Commission.
Aftediscussion,., the Council directed Mro•Pearson
to submit a copy of the contract ora more detailed letter
from the Water Company,,showing that provisions have been
made for= 1000 Gallons Per Minute and twenty pounds .residual
flow,.in.accordance with the Fire_ Department'requirements
providing for fire protection..
.. PENINSULA WATER STUDY
Councilman-Goodman,.one of the Citys representatives
on the Peninsula Water Study-Committeee.requested the Council
to pay a third of a $66.Oa expenditure which he incurred'to
have photostatic copies .made for the Committee.
Councilman Goodman.,was directed to submit the statement
CALIFORNIA CONTRACT CINES.ASSOCIATION
Councilman Goodman, recommended that the -Council
re -consider joining the California Contract Cities Association.
The City Clerk was directed to fin=d out the cost of dues and
report at the next meeting.
RESIGNATION.OF DEPUTY'CITY CLERK
The City Clerk read.a letter from Mrs. Mary Louise
Pourers submitting her -resignation. as. Deputy City Clerk, Deputy
City Treasurers Purchasing Officer,.and secretary of the
Planning Commission,.effec-tine September 30, 1962,.for-the
reason that 'Mrs o Powers is moving out .of the area. . The
..resignation was accepted with. regret by the Council. . Mr.. Kinley
was directed by -the Council to prepare a. Resolution of
..Appreciation.of Services Rendered by Mrso.Powerso
..LEAVE...OF.AESENCE-MAYOR.PRO TEMPORE TOURTELOT
Mayor Pro Tempore Tourtelot stated that he was
taking an extended vacAtion -out of the country and would not
return until the end of No-vember, 1962,
