RESOLUTION NO. 155
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROLLING HILLS, CALIFORNIA, OPPOS-
ING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SOUTH BAY'STATE
COLLEGE IN THE ROLLING HILLS AREA OF THE
PALOS VERDES PENINSULA
WHEREAS,"the Trustees of the'California State,
Colleges have stated that the Rolling Hills area in the
vicinity of Crenshaw -Crest Road -Hawthorne Boulevard is
under consideration as a possible location for the South
Bay State College; and
WHEREAS; said Trustees heretofore havereques'ted
an expression of opinion from the.City of Rolling Hills
either in support or opposition of the possible selection
of said Rolling Hills area as a possible site; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rolling Hills has fully
reviewed and considered its position on the question
of establishment of such college in the Rolling Hills
area; and
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that student enroll-
ment for the South Bay State College probably will reach
and exceed 10,000 persons in the next few years, based
upon the report of the consulting architects; and
WHEREAS, said consulting architects' report
on the South Bay State College, at pages 30 and 63,
reveals that approximately 12,700 .(87%) of a student
body of 14,642 at Los Angeles State College, a similar
institution, own their own automobiles and 93% thereof
arrive on campus as drivers or passengers; and
WHEREAS, the anticipated daily influx of
several thousand student -driven automobiles will create
serious traffic safety and access problems which will
adversely affect and ovebburden the Rolling Hills area
and the Palos Verdes Peninsula;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City
Council of the City of Rolling Hills opposes the establish-
ment of the new South Bay State College within the geo-
graphic boundaries of the Rolling Hills area dnd the Palos
Verdes Peninsula for the primary reasons of limited
access and problems relating to traffic safety;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk
is hereby.authorized and directed to mail certified
copies of this Resolution forthwith to the Board of
Trustees, State College System, 2930 West Imperial
Highway, Inglewood, California.

Resolution, being Resolution No. 155, was passed and
adopted.by the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills,
California, signed by the Mayor of said City and attested
by the City Clerk, all at a regular meeting thereof
held on the 25th day of February, 1963, and that the same
was passed and adopted by the following vote, to wit:

and Mayor O'Flaherty
