0177302 RESOLUTION NO. 177 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL'OF THE CITY OF ROLLING HILLS URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO RESUME STUDY OF ASSEMBLY BILL 2080 (1963) AND THE RELATED REQU$ST FOR STATE MONEY SOTTHAT APPROPRIATE FURTHER LEGISLATION CAN BE INTRODUCED WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles owns certain lands which it has"dediacated as the "South Coast Botanic Garden with a special section designated for a proposed Hall of Horticulture; and WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles intends to operate this Hall, once constructed, at county expense, as it now operates the successful Los Angeles State and County Arboretum in Arcadia; and WHEREAS, the proposed Hall of Horticulture is expected also to serve the purposes of providing education and study of a con- tinuous display of living plants and flowers which will draw adults and children from the entire Southern California area; and WHEREAS, to complete the physical facilities there is need for State assistance amounting to $20,000 the first year and $200,000 to $300,000 over the five years following; and WHEREAS, there was, in 1963, introduced in the -California Legislature Assembly Bill No. 2080 establishing District 53 consisting of a designated area in Los Angeles County, making appropriate changes in boundary of Districts 6 and 48; and author- izing the District Agriculture Association of the new District 53, in addition to any of its other powers, to construct and -operate a building for the growing and continuous display of live flowers and plants; and WHEREAS, that measure is now currently under study by the State Legislature; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills, California, that the City is vitally interested in this project and the intent of the County of Los Angeles to maintain said facility, once constructed at County expense; and I BE IT FUZTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills requests the State Legislature to resume study of Assembly Bill 2080 (1963) and the related request for state money so that appropriate further legislation can be introduced in 1965; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this resolution be forwarded to Assemblyman Charles Chapel and -Assemblyman Vincent Thomas.
