RES Ot`UT`ION N 0 . 19°8 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITIES COMPRISING THE JOINT COUNTY SANITATION DISTRICTS IN OPPOSITION OF THE PROPOSAL TO USE THE PALOS VERDES REFUSE.DISPOSAL SITE .FOR STATE COLLEGE USE INSTEAD OF THE ORIGINAL PROPOSAL FOR PARK AND RECREA- T ION . WHEREAS, approximately ten years ago, the joint County Panitation'Districts did acquire the exhausted diatomaceous earth quarry in the.Palos,Verdes Hills, part of which is now the City of Rolling Hi1is-.Estates for the purpose of refuse disposal which would give us a disposal site for approximately twenty years duration and Upon the filling of said site, it was further proposed that the land reclaimed .by this filling would be used for purposes of County Park and Recreation purposes; and WHEREAS, park and similar green areas available to the people of Los Ange.Le;s County are diminishing at an alarming rate; and WHEREAS., County Sanitation.District No. 5 proposes and urges .a change in use of _.this.. site when filled for the purpose of locating a State college in the South Bay area; and WHEREAS,, 'the prohibition of this location for the South Bay area State college would not create a hardship.on said college because there are other available sites in the area, which is admitted by the proponents of this change; and WHEREAS, -its location will not be available in full for college campu,9'p.urposes.for at least another ten years because dumping is still..'n process; and WHEREAS, any change in the original agreement to ultimately convey this land for purposes of park and.'recreatlion use whether by written contract or mutual understanding is A bre"ach' of public faith. Y NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Rolling Hills, California, urges and instructs its member director of the Sanitation Districts to oppose this move; and BE IT.F URTHER.RESOLVED that said Director be urged and instructed to reaffirm on behalf of the City of Rolling Hills the desire and intention to preserve this property when available for park and recreation purposes.
