02241 1 RESOLUTION NO. 224 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROLLING HILLS WHEREAS, in the year 1967, the legislature of the State of California enacted 'legislation which has now become law, levying an additional tax of three cents per pack on.cigarettes sold within the State; and WHEREAS, said tax so levied, collected by the State of California, is now allocated -to counties and cities on the basis of taxable sales; and WHEREAS, said allocation of this additional tax on a Y taxable sale basis has produced drastic inequities, disparaties be- tween cities; and. WHEREAS, as a result of said inequities, the League of California Cities is supporting le islation which is to be consid- ered by the legislature in its 1968 session, and which if used, would eliminate as far as possible all serious inequities between cities; and WHEREAS, proposed legislation, now being sponsored b the League of California Cities, provides for the allocation of sa d cigarette tax on a basis which would bring about a more equitable distribution of said tax among the cities; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills, that the legislature of the State of California be urged and requested to enact into law legislation which would allocate said additional cigarette tax among the cities of the State of California, and the formula recommended and approved by the -League of California Cities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this resolution be forwarded to State Assemblyman Robert Beverly and State Senator Robert S. Stevens representing the area comprising the City of Rolling Hills in the Legislature of the State of California.
