A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROLLING
HILLS, CALIFORNIA, OPPOSING THE SKETCH PLAN OF THE PALOS
VERDES PENINSULA AS PRESENTED BY THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY
REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the Sketch Plan of the Palos Verdes Peninsula
presented by
the
staff of the Los Angeles County Regional
Planning
Commission to
the
Peninsula Planning Committee on October
21, 1969
proposes to change the ratio of single family residences to multi-
ple residences on the Peninsula from the current 90%/10% to 60%/40%,
and
WHEREAS, this proposal will result in a substantial fraction
of the remaining undeveloped areas of the unincorporated portion of the
Peninsula being urbanized in multiple residential dwellings and associ-
ated commercial services, and
WHEREAS, this City Council has strongly supported the Land
Use Objectives of the Palos Verdes Advisory Council dated March 11, 1968
which strives to protect and preserve the rural character of the area,
to safeguard the natural resource of the open shoreline, and to maintain
a low population density on the Peninsula, and
WHEREAS, the proposed Sketch Plan would permit and tend to
encourage greater population density with high rise apartments which
would obstruct ocean views, increased school taxes and increased traffic
congestion, contrary to our stated Land Use Objectives;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Rolling Hills, California, strongly urges the Los Angeles County
Regional Planning Commission and the Los Angeles County Board of Super-
visors to order the aforesaid Sketch Plan to be revised to provide con-
tinued low density residential and recreational development in the
unincorporated area of the Peninsula similar to the existing density
found in the developed areas of the Peninsula.
