A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROLLING
HILLS JOINTLY WITH THE CITY COUNCILS OF THE CITIES
OF PALOS VERDES ESTATES, RANCHO PALOS VERDES, ROLLING
HILLS ESTATES, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA RAPID TRANSIT DISTRICT TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION
PLANNING CONSULTING SERVICES TO. DEVELOP PLANS FOR NEAR
.TERM PUBLIC TRANSIT IMPROVEMENT ON THE
PALOS VERDES PENINSULA
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Palos Verdes Peninsula have
for some time been concerned about the lack of public transportation
throughout the Peninsula region; and
WHEREAS, this concern has been communicated to among
others, the City Councils of the four Peninsula Cities; and
WHEREAS, as a result of this concern, the four cities,
through the coordinating efforts of the City of Rolling Hills Estates,
have for several months been seeking ways in which satisfactory
feasibility and implementation studies could be conducted to determine
the type and level of public transportation system desired by
residents of the Peninsula region; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rolling Hills Estates has been informed
that the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA RAPID TRANSIT DISTRICT hal' retained the
services of qualified consulting firms to assist in the development
,.of subregional near-term transit improvement plans consistent with the
overall regional plan of the District,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
SECTION to The Cities of Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho
Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates jointly request
the Southern California Rapid Transit District to assign consulting
firm staff to perform, in concert with the staffs and citizens of the
Communities, the necessary studies to design and implement a LOCAL
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM FOR THE PALOS VERDES PENINSULA, such
system to be an integral part of the total regional public transporta-
tion network.
SECTION 20 Such assignment be made at the earliest possible
moment to take advantage of recent studies performed by civic and
business organizations relating to local transit and the present
desire of many local residents to volunteer their time to the successful
realization of such a project.
SECTION 3. The City Clerks of the Cities of Palos Verdes
Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates
shall certify to the passage of this Resolution by the City Council
of each respective city.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk of the City of Rolling Hills
Estates is hereby directed to transmit the fully executed Resolution
to the Southern California Rapid Transit District and to such other
interested and concerned persons as may be considered necessary
