RESOLUTION No. 345 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROLLING HILLS SUPPORTING THE IMPROVEMENT OF BUS TRANSIT SERVICES TO THE PALOS VERDES PENINSULA THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROLLING HILLS HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, the Southern California Rapid Transit District (SCRTD) las developed a plan for improving the bus transit services provided to the Palos Verdes Peninsula; and WHEREAS, numerous public hearings were held with elected officials and community leaders of the Palos Verdes Peninsula; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills supports the improvements suggested by the joint study effort; and WHEREAS, it has been determined by the results of the public hearings that certain additions are desired to the plan, to wit, service from Marineland eastward along Palos Verdes Drive South and north along V Palos Verdes Drive East, additional intra -peninsula service circulating on Palos Verdes Drive South, East, North and West, and a connection of the Miral.este Drive route into San Pedro with the Gaffey Street park and ride facility; and WHEREAS, the Peninsula has one of the highest percentages of transit -dependent young people and a significant number of transit - dependent senior citizens; and WHEREAS, no bus service presently exists which serves the transportation needs of Peninsula residents; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the,, City of Rolling Hills hereby commends SCRTD for its efforts in developing the bus improvement plan and for soliticing community input, and hereby requests that the plan as proposed, with the requested additional service, be implemented as soon as possible, with facilities for accessibility by the handicapped and the elderly, in order that a start may be made toward providing adequate bus transportation for the Peninsula. Hesse was elected to the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills on April 12, 1966, and served as a member thereof until March 5, 1975, during which time he was the presiding officer of gaid City Council as Mayor of Rolling Hills for a period of two years; and WHEREAS, Frederick W. Hesse became a member of the Board of Directors of the Community Association on May 15, 1963 and served as a member thereof until September 18, 1969, during which time he was President of the Board for a period of one year; and WHEREAS, the said Frederick W. Hesse directed the conduct of the affairs of the City and Association so as to preserve the .rights and privileges of its residents; and WHEREAS, he always gave unselfishly of his professional knowledge and unstintingly of his personal time to preserve and improve the rural atmosphere of Rolling Hills; and WHEREAS, he has given his untiring efforts with humor and charm to maintain the beauty and spaciousness so highly valued by the residents of Rolling.Hills; and WHEREAS, he was instrumental in expanding recreational opportunities for its people; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of j the City of Rolling Hills and the Board of Directors of the l Rolling Hills Community Association express grateful appreciation for his outstanding contributions to the life of the community on behalf of all its citizens; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Frederick W. Hesse be extended the sincere love of his fellow residents, now and for the un- limited future; and BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that to express the enduring gratitude of the community for his unequaled contributions, the riding facilities at the gap on Poppy Trail Road will hereafter -be known. as- the Frederick W. Hesse Equestrian Facilities. r-
