OF Tilt"bITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PROCLAIMING "ALCOHOLISM ACT.I..WEEK"
WHEREAS, 'the :City .o;f. Roll n.g . Hi11S recognizes ` the 'cont-
ribution to our society by "'the.Alcohol sm'Couhcil of the 'S"outh
Bay, a voluntary non-profit organization rendering help to the
community ,through .educati.on,information,, referral. and +pre,
treatment ' co'ti ` 1' 'n.g on• the `&Lsease ofAlcoholism;
WHEREAS,. Al'coholi'sm is the nation's number "one drug-
in
rug
in.duced'dise.ase and a major factor in 33 percent of all suicides,
50 percent of all fatal traffic accidents involving delinquent
drivers, 40 percent of the problems brought to family court; and
WHEREAS, alcohol abuse in..the-family' often relates to
abuse of alcohol and'othe'r drug's 'by the'young; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated Alcoholism costs•i_ndustry in
the South Bay more than $60 million annually in absenteeism and
on-the-job accidents with countless more millions being spent by
our citizens in the wake of this costly illness; and
WHEREAS, the Alcoholism Councils.of California will be
observing the week of November 17., 1975 as Alcoho'l'ism Action
Week, continuing their successful efforts to help save families,
lives, jobs and dollars as people learn to recognize the early
signs of the disease:
NOW, THEREFORE, I. Thomas Heinsheimer Mayor of the City
of do hereby proclaim the week of November 17, 1975 as
"Alcoholism Action Week" in the City of Rolling Hills and do
urge all citizens to support the Alcoholism Council of the South
Bay in its effort to fight the disease of Alcoholism.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of November, 1975.
