0417RESOLUTION NO. 417 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROLLING HILLS OPPOSING ASSEMBLY BILL NO. 1233 RELATIVE TO MANDATORY DISTRICT ELECTIONS FOR CITIES WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills recognizes the existing law whereby cities are authorized to provide for the election of council members by districts or at - large; and WHEREAS, AB 1233 authored by Assemblyman Peter Chacon would require the election of council members by districts according to an arbitrary ethnic mix formula; and WHEREAS, members of the Rolling Hills City Council are strong proponents of local control and home rule; NOW., THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Rolling Hills hereby opposes and urges defeat of Assembly Bill No. 1233 as authored by Assemblyman Peter Chacon. SECTION 2. The Mayor, or presiding officer, is hereby authorized to execute this resolution on behalf of the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills signifying.its adoption, and the City Clerk, or her duly appointed deputy, is hereby authorized to attest thereto. SECTION 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward executed copies of.this resolution to Senator 011ie Speraw and Assemblyman Dennis Brown, members of the Assembly Committee on Elections and Reapportionment, and member cities of the California Contract Cities Association.
