STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE
The City Council set strategic goals and priorities in January, 2020 and again in January,
2022. Last year residents received a detailed accomplishment summary in the mail. The
following is an update looking both back and forward.
GOALS ESTABLISHED 2022 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Wildfire Mitigation
• Continued Communal Bin & RHCA Chipping
Events, Hardening the Home Inspections, and
promotion of two released How-To video series
• Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy
vegetation clearance in Portuguese Bend
Reserve continues.
• City will benefit from forthcoming Rancho Palos
Verdes Wildfire Early Detection Video System
program
Emergency Preparedness
Evacuation
• Worked with LA County Office of Emergency
Management for creation of specific Evacuation
Zones and procedures
• City performed two Emergency Notification
Tests using Emergency Information System
(EIS), Alert South Bay and Reverse 911.
• City exploring use of Emergency Siren system for
use when power and communication services are
disabled
Utility Undergrounding
• Crest Road East Grant Project designs are
completed and utilities/City working on
preparations to go out to bid for construction
• Eastfield Drive Grant Project has Public Hearing
on 1/23/23 and recently received additional
$1MM in Rule 20A funding from LA County
Communication
with Residents
• Staff continues to use Blue Newsletter format
• Created Social Media presence and increased
Special Blue Newsletters
• Archived materials now fully accessible via City
website including Videos, Agenda Packets,
Minutes, Agreements, Newsletters, Ordinances,
Resolutions and Planning materials
Minimize
Legal Liability
• City Council adopted a compliant 6th Cycle
Housing Element, Safety Element plus new ADU,
SB9 (lot-splits) and SB1383 (Organic Waste)
ordinances to comply with State mandates
• ADA project for City Hall and Tennis Courts
continues planning stages
• Council approved contract for Project Inspection
Services to ensure all capital projects comply
with regulations and requirements
Drainage • Creation of City Council / RHCA Subcommittee
to address citywide drainage issues

residents continued efforts to clear vegetation
and Harden Homes
• Establish designation as a “Firewise USA”
community to reduce fire insurance premiums
Emergency Preparedness /
Evacuation
• Rollout of Peninsula “Know Your Zone”
Campaign implementing specific Evacuation
Zones and procedures during an emergency
event
• City to perform additional Emergency
Notification Tests using Emergency Information
System (EIS), Alert South Bay and Reverse 911.
• City Council to consider and decide on
implementation of Emergency Siren system
