ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION AT THE CITY HALL CAMPUS On Friday, April 28th Mayor Pro Tem Leah Mirsch officially welcomed the newest addition to Rolling Hills, a young Tabebuia Tree, donated by Bennett Landscaping, to celebrate Arbor Day. This holiday celebrates the planting, upkeep and preservation of trees. DR. CARMEN ESTRADA SCHAYE RECOGNIZED BY CITY COUNCIL At the April 24, 2023 City Council meeting, Dr. Carmen Estrada Schaye was presented with a City Commendation and the Cal Cities, Women of Persistence Award Certificate for her service as a Presidential appointed Member with the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. The City thanks Dr. Estrada Schaye for her service and commitment to education. ROLLING HILLS CRIMES REPORTED For the time period April 9- 22, 2023 None U P C O M I N G C I T Y M E E T I N G S City Council Meeting 05/8/23 at 7:00 pm Planning Commission Meeting 5/16/22 at 6:30pm Traffic Commission Meeting 5/25/23 at 8:30am PROPOSITION 218 NOTICE ON POTENTIAL REFUSE COLLECTION SERVICE FEE INCREASE In accordance with state law, and the City Council’s direction to staff at the March 27, 2023 meeting, each resident has now received a notice on the potential refuse service fee increase. A public hearing is scheduled on June 12, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers for residents to share their thoughts on the matter. Residents can also submit a written protest to the increase. LOMITA SHERIFF’S STATION CIVILIAN ACADEMY FOR THE COMMUNITY The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lomita station will be hosting a Civilian Academy for residents in areas they serve. The academy is a 10-week course, which meets once a week in the evening. This is an excellent opportunity for community members to learn, gain knowledge and be educated on the responsibilities, procedures and guidelines that we are governed by. Members of the department will explain daily job functions and share some training. UPDATE ON MIDDLERIDGE LANE DRAINAGE REPAIRS PROJECT Phase 1 of the repairs include cleaning of debris and shoring up of deteriorating or missing corrugated pipe bottom sections, is complete. Phase 2 will begin on May 8th and continue for two weeks. RHCA GREEN WASTE CHIPPING EVENT Monday, May 22nd The Rolling Hills Community Association has scheduled a City wide chipping service to all Rolling Hills Residents on Monday, May 22nd. If you would like to participate in the free program, please refer to the RHCA Newsletter that is attached to the Dwelling Live announcement for further information and important instructions. SPECIAL NOTE FOR PV DRIVE NORTH RESIDENTS: PV Drive North properties must have chipping materials at the Curbside for removal, Trucks will not come up driveways and cannot turn around.
