On October 17th, the Planning Commission recommended approval of a new Wireless Ordinance to the City Council. The City Council will be considering the item on December 14th. The Wireless Ordinance considers new state and federal requirements on wireless communication facilities (WCF), including prohibiting cities from banning WCFs through a moratorium, requiring cities to process applications in a timely manner (“shot clock” requirements), considering “eligible facilities” and small wireless facilities, limiting design standards, and capping fees. Previously, a survey was prepared by the Rolling Hills Community Association and sent out to the community about the WCFs. The survey showed a concern about adequate cell phone coverage in Rolling Hills, especially during emergencies. The new Wireless Ordinance addresses concerns about adequate cell phone coverage while protecting the City’s health, safety, and welfare. If you have questions about the Wireless Ordinance, you can visit the City’s website or contact City Hall.
