2023-12-19_Newsletter CITY COUNCIL James Black, M.D. Bea Dieringer Leah Mirsch Jeff Pieper Patrick Wilson December 19, 2023 Issue No. 23-24 CITY COUNCIL RE-ORGA NIZATION On December 14th, the City Council re-organized with Leah Mirsch becoming the new Mayor and Jeff Pieper the new Mayor Pro Tem. Former Mayor Pat Wilson was recognized for his service during 2023. Happy Holidays and New Year from the Rolling Hills City Council and staff. CITY HALL HOLIDAY HOURS City Hall will be closed Monday, December 25th and Tuesday, December 26th for the Christmas holiday, as well as Monday, January 1, 2024 in observance of the New Year’s holiday. CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING PROGRAM December 26th through January 13th To participate, place your tree next to your green waste, with decorations and stands removed. Republic Services will transport it to a facility where it will be used for mulch and compost. Trees with flocking, tinsel, lights and ornaments will NOT be accepted. Please cut trees over six feet in half. Do not place trees in plastic bags. If you have questions, please contact Republic Services Customer Service Department at 1-800-299-4898. TRASH TALK: UPDATE ON RECENT ISSUES The City is well aware that trash services degraded since Thanksgiving due to Republic Services internal staffing issues. City staff is working with Republic’s operations supervisor to ensure missed service is corrected. Staff will continue to work with Republic on finding long-tern solutions and the Council’s Solid Waste and Recycling Committee will be meeting sometime in January to discuss as well. U P C O M I N G C I T Y M E E T I N G S City Council Meeting 1/8/24 at 7:00pm Planning Commission Meeting 1/16/24 at 6:30pm Traffic Commission Meeting 1/25/24 at 8:30am ROLLING HILLS BLOCK CAPTAINS RECOGNIZED BY THE CITY AND PEERS Block Captains are residents who volunteer their time for the well-being of the community. At the December 6, 2023 Block Captain Holiday Gathering, Lead Block Captains Marita Geraghty, Debra Shrader, and Marian Visco recognized Block Captain Nicole Tangen and resident Don Crocker for their leadership during an emergency event (Nicole) and advocacy for providing additional exit routes during an emergency (Don). The City thanks all the Block Captains for their generosity and considerations for the community. The Block Captains have been instrumental in bringing about awareness and education on wildfire mitigation measures and are advocates for more actions by local government. Thank you Block Captains! HOLIDAY TRASH COLLECTION SCHEDULE No pick-ups will occur on Monday, December 25th or January 1st due to the holidays. Pickup days will be temporarily moved to Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for both weeks. RHCA HOLIDAY HOURS The RHCA office will be closing for the holidays from Friday, December 22nd and will re-open on Tuesday, January 2nd at 7:30am.
