They have shared the following information in response to questions by residents. 1. Install Security Systems: Invest in a reliable home security system that includes alarms, motion detectors, and surveillance cameras. Visible security measures can act as a deterrent for potential burglars. 2. Secure Doors and Windows: Reinforce entry points by using solid core doors, deadbolt locks, and window locks. Consider installing security film on windows to make them more resistant to break-ins. 3. Good Lighting: Illuminate the exterior of your home, especially entrances, with motion- activated lights. Well-lit areas reduce hiding spots and make it more difficult for burglars to approach unnoticed. 4. Landscaping: Trim bushes and trees around windows and entry points to eliminate hiding spots. Ensure clear lines of sight from the street to your home, reducing the chance of burglars going unnoticed. 5. Home Automation: Use smart home technology to simulate your presence even when you're away. Smart lighting, thermostats, and security systems can be programmed to give the appearance that someone is home. 6. Secure Valuables: Keep valuables, important documents, and expensive items in a secure safe. This adds an extra layer of protection even if a burglar manages to enter your home. 7. Neighborhood Watch: Establish good relations with your neighbors and consider participating in or starting a neighborhood watch program. Look out for each other and report any suspicious activity promptly. 8. Social Media Caution: Avoid broadcasting your travel plans or extended absences on social media platforms. Burglars may use this information to target homes when occupants are away. 9. Use Timers for Electronics: Set timers for lights, radios, or TVs to create the illusion of activity in your home, especially when you're away for an extended period. 10. Secure Garage: Keep your garage secure as it can be an easy entry point. Use a strong lock on the garage door and windows and consider installing motion sensors specifically for the garage. Implementing a combination of these measures can significantly enhance the security of your home and reduce the risk of burglary.
