A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY.COUNC;L OF THE CITY
OF ROLLING HILLS OPPOSING THE .'PROPOSED OFF-
SHORE HARBOR AIRPORT
WHEREAS, the California Association of Governments has just
completed a two-year study of sites for the location of a regional
airport to serve the Los Angeles Metropqitan Area, and to relieve
the excessive congestion at Los Angeles International Airport; and
WHEREAS, the studyrecommends that a new regional airport
facility be located approximately 12 miles southerly of the Los Angeles
Harbor breakwater line, on a man-made island capable of providing runways
ten thousand feet in length and approximately four thousand three hundred
feet apart, as a suitable terminal and adequate transportation
facilities from the terminal to the mainland; and
WHEREAS; the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills
believes the construction of such a facility in the proposed location
would be detrimental to the health, peace, safety and general welfare
of the.residents of this City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Rolling Hills, on behalf of all of its residents, is opposed
to the construction of an airport facility on a man-made island in
the San Pedro Bay, 12 miles south of the Los Angeles Harbor breakwater.
..'BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the City Clerk be directed to
send a copy of this Resolution -to the Southern.California Association
of Governments; the Federal Aviation Administration; Senators H.I.
Hayakawa and Alan Cranston; Congressmen Robert K. Dornan, Robert G.
Beverly; Assemblywoman Marilyn Ryan; and Supervisor Yvonne
Brathwaite Burke.
