0480Q16 CITY"OF ROLLING HILLS LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION NO. 480 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROLLING HILLS SUPPORTING AN INITIATIVE TO REQUIRE DEPOSITS ON ALL BEVERAGE CONTAINERS SOLD IN CALIFORNIA. WHEREAS, one of the major causes of litter in the Stateais the disposable or one-way beverage container, and WHEREAS, in the past few years several states have enacted legislation requiting deposits on all beverage containers, the result of which has been a significant reduction in litter from beverate•,con- tainers, and �. WHEREAS, the City Council has repeatedly supported legis- lative efforts to enact such.a measure, all of which efforts have so �`- far failed, and WHEREAS,. an Initiative Petition is now being circulated throughout the State which if.qualified and passed by the voters would amend the Public Resources Code and require a deposit of not less than five cents on all beverage containers for beer and soft drinks sold after March 1, 1984, and 1 WHEREAS, the passage of such a measure would not only reduce litter, but also save money; reduce solid waste, conserve natural resources, create jobs, and promote the public health. NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills hereby endorses the Can and Bottle Recycling Initiative petition now being circulated and urges all registered voters in the City to sign the petition and work for its passage once it qualifies as a ballot measure. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED ON January 11, 1982.
