0961RESOLUTION NO. 961: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROLLING HILLS OFFERING SUPPORT FOR THE EFFORTS OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES AND THE PALOS VERDES PENINSULA LAND CONSERVANCY TO PRESERVE OPEN SPACE IN THE PORTUGUESE BEND AREA AND CREATE THE PORTUGUESE BEND NATURE PRESERVE. WHEREAS, preservation of natural open space on the Palos Verdes Peninsula is a priority for residents of Rolling Hills; and WHEREAS, the large areas of open space in the Portuguese Bend area of Rancho Palos Verdes represent the last large, contiguous parcels of natural open space remaining on the Palos Verdes Peninsula; and WHEREAS, large open space areas offer unique recreational and educational opportunities for residents of the City of Rolling Hills as well as for residents of other South Bay cities; and WHEREAS, these natural open space areas are critical. for preservation of plant and animal species native to the Palos Verdes Peninsula; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of Rolling Hills does hereby offer its strong support for the efforts of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to preserve large areas of open space in th Portuguese Bend area and create the Portuguese Bend Nature Preserve.
